Ten ideas for influencing behavioural changes at work

1.    Look at the CTC model on the key organisational components of influencing behaviour and use it to create an overview of your organisation and then as an initial healthcheck. (www.c-t-c.org. home page then click on coaching-training-consultancy; then click on the behavioural training square).

The model gives an overview of how organisational components may influence an individual's chosen behaviour at work and it may  flag up areas within the organisation that might first require attention prior to focussing on any specific change.

2.    From the initial healthcheck, (and if the organisational components are in place and working effectively), it's time to get more specific about the key behaviours you wish to focus on.

What are the 2 – 3 vital behaviours that need to change?

3.    Where is there +ve deviation within the organisation? (i.e. are any areas ‘bucking the trend and displaying the behaviours you would like to see adopted?)

4.    Why?   –  What are they doing differently?

5.    Who are  the key influencers in the organisation that need to be seen adopting the new behaviours?

6.    How do we involve them in creating the story (engagement and emotional linkage)

7.    Do the right levels of motivation and ability exist to implement the new behaviours?

8.    How do we create “strength in numbers” to create the momentum to continue to drive the change?

9.    What are the appropriate rewards and accountability\consequences that we need to design?

10.    Are there any other environmental\cultural features that might undermine the sustainability of the changed behaviour?
